1. Apps inside ChatGPT + Apps SDK

OpenAI now lets you build apps that live within ChatGPT — not separate tools, but conversational apps with UI, logic, and interactivity.

Some initial apps: Canva, Spotify, Zillow, Booking, Coursera — you can call them inside a chat, ask them to act, and get results without leaving the conversation.

What it enables:

  • Embedded experiences: design slides in chat, fetch data from Zillow, generate playlists — all in the same thread.

  • Contextual apps: ChatGPT can suggest apps based on the conversation (e.g. “You mentioned design, want me to open Canva?”)

  • Developers now have a gateway to 800M+ users (ChatGPT’s reach) via this SDK.

2. AgentKit, New Models & API Upgrades

DevDay also highlighted the rise of agents and more capable models.

  • AgentKit: Tools to build, manage, and monitor AI agents. Includes visual “agent‐builder,” connectors to data sources, guardrails, and embedded UIs.

  • GPT-5 Pro (API): The new flagship model for deep reasoning, enterprise use, heavier tasks.

  • Sora 2 (video generation via API): OpenAI is pushing video creation — now you can integrate video generation (from sketches or prompts) into apps using Sora 2.

  • Upgraded Codex / agentic coding features: more autonomy, ability to run tasks for longer durations, slack integrations, improved control.

3. Platform Strategy & Ecosystem Moves

The deeper story: OpenAI is creating an ecosystem where AI, tools, and data interoperate.

  • OpenAI adopted Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard for how apps and models exchange state/context in a unified way — meaning your app in ChatGPT won’t lose context when switching between models or modules.

  • The platform is shifting from “AI you call” → “AI platform you live inside.” ChatGPT is becoming the hub.

  • The infrastructure push is real: deals for compute, partnerships, hardware moves (e.g. chip supply) underscore that performance and availability will be major competitive edges.

⚠️ Things to Watch / Risks

  • SDK is in preview — not all features are finalized, and the adoption curve will matter.

  • Performance & consistency under load will be a battleground. These complex apps + agentic flows stress the system.

  • Ecosystem lock-in & dependency: if your app is deeply bound to ChatGPT, changes on OpenAI’s side affect you.

  • Monetization & review guidelines for apps are not fully clear yet.

  • Ethics, IP, compliance — especially for generative video (copyright, likeness, content control) — will need guardrails.

Already, Sora’s initial release ran into copyright backlash over enabling AI-generated versions of known characters/figures.
